What is the opinion of the president of the FPO about the locations chosen for the WRE?
Obviously, the President always has a positive opinion on all Orienteering events in Portugal, as well as the other competitions that I participate in other countries. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have always been adept in practicing the sport in any area of the country, regardless of the quality of the terrain.
As for the places chosen for the WRE Beira Litoral ‘O’ Meeting, were two excellent choices,Not only for the quality of the areas for the Orienteering practicability, but also for its History. It’s well known, that Orienteering practitioners are eager to know and explore new spaces. New areas, in historic places, add immense value to the event.
What expectations do you have about the event, either as FPO president or as an athlete, once you are going to compete?
As President of the FPO are the best.In addition to reviewing the friends that I have in Orienteering, I will love walking in Coimbra, that I know well, but with a map, that shows me it in a different way, and I will take a stroll through the hills of Cernache do Bonjardim, the presumed homeland of Nuno Álvares Pereira and a very clean village with healthy air, as Orlando Ribeiro and Sant’Anna Dionísio once wrote.
As an athlete it will be more difficult. Not because I’m going to get lost, but because I’m going to sweat, to go up and down streets and stairways in Coimbra and to try to beat Alberto Branco. I am fortunate that Arnaldo Mendes does not compete because he is in the organization of the event.
For those athletes who are still undecided in registering for the event, what factors would you consider important to motivate them to do so?
